AYURVEDA- The Ancient Medicine For The 21st Century & Beyond
I am writing this article when Ayurveda medicine and Ayurveda daily and seasonal regime is adopted by millions of people across the globe during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Lot's of people ask me what is Ayurveda? How they can know more about Ayurveda? How Ayurveda will help them to live happy & healthy life? How they can achieve longevity of life?
In this article I will explain what is Ayurveda? How it is helpful in the present Era?
Ayurveda is a holistic
medical system that originated in India and is still extensively practiced
today. Ayurveda is a Sanskrit phrase that means “science/knowledge of life." Ayu is the
Sanskrit word for "life" or "daily living," and Veda is the
Sanskrit word for "knowledge/ science." The Vedas, the world's oldest
existing text, were the first to mention Ayurveda. For more than 5,000 years,
Indians have used this healing medicine in their daily lives.
We use the objects in
our environment for a variety of purposes, including food, medicine, and other
necessities. We choose them based on their properties and activities in the
system when they are employed. Some have been shown to be useful to a healthy lifestyle
while others have been found to be harmful. Things that are good to a healthy
life are chosen and used in daily life such as food and medicine, and to recognize
and avoid hazardous things, including not only material items but also thoughts
and acts. Ayurveda explains the what, how, and why of all these aspects of
life.
It is nature's rule
that everything born has to die. The period of time between birth and death is
life (Ayuh). It is said that the expectation of life span of an animal is five
times the time taken for maturity. Twenty years is said to be taken by human
beings for maturity, So the natural life expectancy of a man is hundred years Shatayuh
Purushah. Some say it is six times, then it is one hundred and twenty years, shatiradvighna(
two times of sixty), as the astrologers say.
As a result, the
sixtieth birthday, shastipurti, is significant. Each of the nine planets(grahas),
is assigned a period of time in astrology. The nine grahas are said to have
lived for a total of 120 years. Ayurveda teaches how to live to one's natural
age and then die without disease and with ease. As a result, Ayurveda is the
most important information that a person may possess in order to live a happy
and healthy life until death. Carelessness in one's habits and living
situations, as well as accidents and emergencies, can all lead to disease.
By altering one's
lifestyle and circumstances disease is treated and health is restored through
pathya and proper medicine, as well as surgical procedures at times. All of this
is explained in the Aturavruttam, a section of Ayurveda. Swastha Vrutta is the section of Ayurveda that explains the
principles and methods of living a healthy life. Atura is the diseased, swastha
is the healthy, and vrutta is the way of life.
In Swasthavrutta, there
is a section called rasayana ( rejuvenation therapy), in which it is revealed
how to manage the natural process of ageing so that man can live longer while
preserving excellent health. The advice on rasayana is particularly pertinent
in these days of lower mortality and increased life expectancy. According to
studies, lower mortality leads to higher morbidity, which Swasthavrutta can
help with.
